What is Sports Massage Therapy?

Sports massage therapy is a system based on an in-depth knowledge of surface anatomy and physiology, along with an understanding of the physical demands of various sports and the application of specific techniques to assess and manipulate the soft tissues of the body, in order to prevent or rehabilitate musculoskeletal injuries.

By palpation, the therapist is able to locate, identify and treat areas of specific tensions within the tissues that could lead to potential injury sites

Sports massage is adapted to the needs of each individual and is not only for athletes. It is also beneficial to people who suffer from general aches and pains usually brought on by repetitive movements at work or more commonly bad posture. Through treatment, the build-up of aches and pains that are often ignored or suppressed with drugs can be alleviated and the risk of further, more serious injury can be reduced. If you're suffering from a sports related injury, call Castle Clinic to find out how we can help you.

Testimonial

"Over the years I have been treated by many sports massage therapists, but Filipe is undoubtedly the best. He is extremely knowledgeable and experienced, and can pinpoint where a problem lies, which is usually nowhere near where you expect! As a hockey player with over 50 years pounding a pitch and a keen walker/trekker, my lower back and neck have suffered, but he releases tension, brings back mobility to tight muscles and helps me to maintain my active lifestyle"
